Welke eetgewoonten hebben de chinchilla’s in het wild?<\/strong>
\nChinchilla’s hebben een heel lang darmstelsel om het arme voer optimaal te benutten. In het wild eten ze dan vooral veel soorten steppegrassen, wortels, knollen, droge bessen, vruchten van een cactus, onkruid en zaden, blad en schors.
\nZe eten heel graag guillaves, de smakelijke vruchten van de reuzecactus quisco. De stammen lijken op grote vingers die naar de lucht wijzen. Ze zitten vol stekels en kunnen 4 tot 5 meter hoog worden. Chinchilla’s zijn ongeduldig diertjes. Ze beginnen gaten in de wortels van de cactus te knagen, belanden in het inwendige buizenstelsel en klimmen in de stam omhoog. Op verschillende hoogtes knagen ze openingen om te zien hoeveel ze nog moeten knagen tot ze de vrucht hebben bereikt.<\/p>\n

Water nemen chinchilla’s op in de vorm van dauwwater (dauw van grashalmen) op het gras, cactussap en het vocht dat in hun voedsel zit.<\/p>\n
